Durham Lumiere and some eats

As I was saying in Friday’s post, on Thursday evening we went to the amazing Durham Lumiere Festival. I think it’s fair to say that as much as I love Durham, the city we’ve made home, not a great deal goes on in the city. We have the Cathedral (which was used in the filming of Harry Potter movies) and castle, but I’ve always felt that the city could be more vibrant. Lumiere brings so much buzz into the city and really shows off how beautiful it is. If you aren’t familiar with the festival, it’s basically an art event with several light installations dotted around the city.

I’ll try and let the pictures do the talking…

P1150317My favourite installation, men that light up and crawl up the building – at one point some electronic music kicks in and it made me feel like I was in a Daft Punk video, loved it!

Such a great event, if you ever get the opportunity to come here and go then do! We didn’t try and get up to see the Cathedral installation as the wait was over an hour, but we had seen that at the last Lumiere event. We had decided to make an evening of it with my Mam and Dad and had some pizza and wine for dinner:

I love red wine but it doesn’t love me! That pizza was delicious as well. It was lovely to spend some time with my Mam and Dad too, love them to bits!

Other than that it’s been all about getting ready to go away to Brighton next week. I’ve had a couple of squashes that I wanted to eat up before we left so they have featured heavily!

Yesterday I decided to go to a spin class so before I went I snacked on some roast squash and peanut flour sauce. When I came back I made a squash smoothie!

Roast squash, vanilla protein powder, almond milk, cinnamon, ginger and ice blended up and topped with tahini and dried cranberries, yum!

So as you read this we should be on our road trip down south! I have some posts scheduled for next week so will still be popping in and saying hello in the comments when I can, but forgive me if I can’t comment on your lovely blogs as usual. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a great week ahead! I you fancy checking out what I get up to on my little holiday, I’ll be on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Dayre (all links below!)

Hehe – I do know what you mean about Durham. I guess I like the fact that it’s quite small and sleepy, as it were, but that’s because it makes me feel safer than the hustle and bustle of Newcastle. And yes, I did just about spontaneously combust with anxiety when I went to London for the marathon.

I can think of no better reason to eat ALL the squash than needing to use it up before a holiday. Not that I would need a reason. Have a great time!

You would have hated Durham this weekend it was a bit nuts with how busy it was at times! I’m now in Brighton on the hunt for more squash to bring home with me!

Love the phone box and watering cans :-)
We don’t have many events around here close, and by close I mean within a 15 minute drive … I’m lazy like that. But they have put up some interesting lights which create shadows and effects in town which I want to take the kids to see.
    Have fun in Brighton.

I’m just the same Lara, if it wasn’t on my door step it would have been too much hassle!

That sounds like such a fun event! There are always lots of things going on in Bristol but I don’t get to go to most of them sadly. Hope you have a good road trip!
