This was greatly needed yesterday morning…

Green smoothie made with spinach, apples, vanilla sun warrior protein powder, kara coconut milk, maca powder and ice. It did the trick and kept me going for a morning of sales shopping! It’s tradition for me to hit the shops the day after Boxing Day and spend some of my Christmas money. It was probably the busiest I’ve ever seen it! I got some great items:

PicMonkey Collage2High waisted skinny ankle skimming jeans: Topshop (£25 down from £40), Floral tea dress: French Connection (£30 down from £89), striped dress: Whistles (£40 down from £89)

PicMonkey Collage3Military style shirt: Oasis (£25 down from £35) Red floral mini dress: Urban Outfitters (£25 down from £55), black pointe trousers: Warehouse (£25 down from £48)

PicMonkey Collage4Patent leather purse: Dune (£25 down from £38), Glass display bell jar: Monsoon Home (£18 down from £32)

I also got a few things online on Boxing Day. I’m waiting for them to be delivered but I got:

online sales

  • Cheap Monday Ponte Trousers, Urban Outfitters £25 down from £50
  • Bicycle Throw, Urban Outfitters £22 down from £35
  • Antique Rose Frame, Urban Outfitters £5 down from £10
  • Cafe Glasses, Urban Outfitters £4 down from £8
  • ASOS Dress – £45 down to £20
  • People Tree Stripe Top (via ASOS) – £30 down to £18.50

I like to try and get slightly better quality items from the usually more expensive shops while they are on sale as I’d usually not be able to afford them full price. I always hit up French Connection and Whistles in the sales! For my sales shopping tips see my On the Cheap: Fashion post. I feel like I have a good handle on my style and what suits me so I know its worth investing in floral dresses, slim leg black trousers and stripy tees. The shirt is something a bit different for me but I feel like I suit them better with having a more curvy frame right now.

Well don’t let that green smoothie fool you, I have still been enjoying more treats – my Christmas might as well have been sponsored by Hotel Chocolat and Green and Blacks! However I have been trying to have some more regular meals. I made some lovely swede and parsnip ‘chips’ with basil tofu and stir fried sprouts:

Also some simple mince pie porridge with a chopped apple:

Yesterday I had some thai sweet potato and leek soup and I’ve also been trying to keep up with the salads to make sure I get my veggies in. It seems to be working so far as in the past I have often caught a head cold at this time of year, but so far so good!

This morning I hit the gym for my first workout in three days. To give you an idea of my workouts over the festive period they have looked like this:

  • Saturday – REST
  • Sunday – Gym – strength and cardio for about 45 minutes
  • Christmas Eve – 20 minute yoga podcast – Detox Challenge Flow
  • Christmas Day – REST
  • Boxing Day – LOTS of REST
  • Thursday – Shopping, i.e. MORE REST
  • Friday – Gym – 3,2,1 style workout

I’m happy with that balance to be honest – I think the fact that I haven’t forced my workouts meant that I was really itching to get back into it this morning and got in a really good workout. After the gym I made this protein smoothie in a bowl:

I might have to blog this as a recipe as it was amazing! It tasted like sherbet sweeties – frozen cranberries, two satsumas, a scoop of vanilla sun warrior, maca, kara coconut milk, vanilla stevia drops and a little bit of ice topped with Christmas granola and goji berries. So good!
