Business, Latest

In the first of a short series of blog posts focusing on the key areas of business you need to look at so you can get more clients in 2026, we’re delving into all things messaging.

I’ve become more and more passionate about the power of great messaging over the course of this year. As I’ve supported my clients in this area, I’ve witnessed just how incredible it is when we’re intentional with our messaging. In 2026 and beyond, having strong, compelling messaging is an absolute non-negotiable if you want to attract clients into your coaching business.

Why is Messaging so Important for 2026?

So why is messaging going to be so important as we move into 2026? There are many reasons, but one of the biggest is simply the scale of the coaching industry. There are thousands of coaches out there, all wanting to support people, all wanting to grow their businesses, all wanting the same things that you want too.

One of the most powerful ways to stand out in such a saturated space is with clear, compelling, well crafted messaging. No matter how you market your business, no matter what platforms you use, strong messaging will make every single aspect of your marketing more effective.

We are also seeing a massive rise in AI generated content. And while AI has its place and can be genuinely useful, it has also created a lot of noise. A lot of that content is generic, flat, and instantly recognisable as AI written. This actually creates a huge opportunity for coaches who are willing to hone their message properly. When your message is grounded, human, and distinct, you immediately stand out in a sea of sameness.

I am already seeing so much content online that is clearly AI written and it is obvious from the first sentence. Going into 2026, the coaches who take the time to shape a clear, resonant message are the ones who will rise above that noise.

At its heart, messaging is what makes people feel something. It is one of the biggest drivers of connection. It’s the foundation of the know, like, and trust factor so when you get your message right, everything else becomes easier. It supports content creation, it shapes how and where you show up, and it helps potential clients connect with you faster and more deeply.

Your message is a core piece of the puzzle. You simply cannot afford to overlook it.

Heading into 2026, with more coaches entering the industry, more AI generated content, and a general shift in trust online, messaging becomes even more essential. Strong messaging gives you an edge. It shows people who you are, what you stand for, and why you are different. And that is exactly what will help you grow in the year ahead.

What actually is messaging for coaches?

When we talk about messaging, what are we actually referring to? Messaging is related to niche and brand, but it is not the same thing. It is its own specific layer of your business. At its core, messaging is the connective thread that ties together the bigger vision for your business, who you are, who you serve, why you serve them, what makes you different, and the journey you take your clients on.

All of those elements exist within your business, but messaging is what shapes them into something that can be expressed clearly in your visibility. It is the piece that takes what you know about yourself and your work, and turns it into words that your audience can understand, relate to, and feel drawn towards.

Messaging helps you communicate what makes you unique, why someone should choose you over another coach, the specific transformation you offer, the problems you help people solve, and the kind of support you provide. There are many strands within messaging, but at the heart of it there are a set of key questions you need to be able to answer. These are the questions I explore with my clients to help them create clarity, connection, and resonance.

And ultimately, that is what messaging is all about. It’s the way we create clarity for our audience, the way we build connection with the people we want to serve, and the way we create that sense of resonance that makes someone think yes, this is the coach for me.

When you get your messaging right, it becomes the foundation of why people choose to work with you. Which is why it needs attention, intention, and some thoughtful shaping. Once you have that clarity, you can communicate it consistently in everything you share externally in your business.

How do you know if your messaging needs work?

So how can you tell if your messaging is not quite hitting the mark? There are a few key signs to watch out for.

First, if you struggle to create content, that is a big indicator. If ideas for posts, videos, podcasts etc feel scattered, disconnected, or hard to come by, your messaging may need refining. When your message isn’t clear, everything you put out there can feel all over the place.

Another sign is if you are not getting clients, or if your content feels like it’s being ignored. If you feel like you are shouting into the void, or if responses and enquiries are few and far between, your messaging could be the missing piece.

Even if you are attracting clients, pay attention to the fit. If the people who book with you aren’t quite the right match, or if you find it hard to support them fully because expectations are been unclear, that is another messaging red flag. Messaging is about clarity around who you serve, the transformation you provide, and why someone should work with you.

Feeling a bit lost or disconnected in your business can also signal that your messaging needs work. Strong messaging is grounded in your purpose – your ‘big why’ – and when that clarity is missing, it can show up as uncertainty or lack of direction.
Finally, if you are using AI tools to create content but feel that the results don’t reflect your voice or intentions, that is another sign. Without a clear message to guide the content, AI will only amplify the lack of clarity.

All of these are indicators that your messaging could benefit from some attention. Getting it right will make everything else in your business feel more aligned and effective.

What are the benefits of working on your messaging?

So what are some of the benefits of having really clear messaging? As we’ve already touched on, messaging is one of the foundations of a successful coaching business, and getting it right brings a whole host of advantages.

When your messaging is clear and consistent, it creates connection and resonance with the people you want to serve. Clients are more likely to understand what you do, see the value you offer, and feel that sense of alignment that makes them want to work with you. It is that moment of synergy when someone thinks, “Yes, I get this coach. This makes perfect sense.” When your messaging hits, it just clicks for both you and your audience.

Clear messaging also makes content creation far easier. Once you know what you want to communicate and how, ideas flow naturally and you can create content that truly reflects your brand, your values, and the transformation you offer.

Another key benefit is that sales become simpler. When you are clear about the results you provide and the journey you take clients on, you can communicate this confidently. Knowing your message inside out makes it easier to have conversations with potential clients and to sell your services with authenticity and ease.

Getting your messaging right is not just about words; it is about creating clarity, connection, and confidence in every area of your business.

Messaging Hacks for Health and Life Coaches

We’ve covered what messaging is, why it’s important, how to identify when it needs work, and the positive results you can expect when your messaging is strong.

But what are some simple hacks you can start using right now to improve your messaging?

1. Don’t be afraid to repeat yourself
Many coaches worry about being repetitive when creating content, but repetition is a powerful tool when your messaging is strong. Not everyone sees every piece of content you put out, so repeating key messages across different platforms and formats helps reinforce your message and ensures consistency. You can adjust the language slightly each time, but don’t worry if it feels like repetition – it usually comes across as consistency to your audience.

2. Tell stories
Stories are a powerful way to bring your message to life. Whether it’s a personal transformation, a case study, or a client journey, storytelling helps people understand your work in a tangible and relatable way. Keep it simple: start, middle, end. Even short stories can make a concept clear and memorable, helping your audience connect with your message more deeply.

3. Add a descriptor to your ideal clients
Many coaches describe their audience in broad terms, like “busy mums” or “stressed women in their forties.” Adding an extra, positive descriptor can make a big difference. For example, in my business, I work with highly sensitive and heart-centred health and life coaches. That additional descriptor helps call in the right people and refine the connection with your ideal clients. Think about a characteristic, interest, or trait that your ideal clients have and use it to make your messaging more specific and inviting.

4. Get clear on your values
Sharing your personal and professional values is a powerful way to attract clients who resonate with you. Your values help people understand who you are and what you stand for, and clients who share those values are more likely to engage, commit, and stay aligned with your work. Think carefully about the values you want to highlight in your messaging, and don’t be afraid to weave them into your content and communications.

By using these simple hacks – repetition, storytelling, descriptive targeting, and values clarity – you can make your messaging more consistent, compelling, and effective at attracting the clients you are best placed to help.
