15 Ways to Make Money as a Coach (Beyond 1:1 Coaching)

Business, Latest

If you’ve trained as a health, life or spiritual coach, chances are you started out with one plan: get clients, do 1:1 sessions, repeat. And that’s a brilliant place to start. But it’s not the only way to bring money into your coaching business, and honestly, it doesn’t have to be.

I think it’s really exciting to think about the different ways you could generate income in your business, especially if you’re multi-passionate, heart-centred, or neurodivergent like a lot of us are. Having more than one way to make money isn’t about being spread thin. Done right, it’s about building something more sustainable, something that isn’t solely reliant on you showing up and delivering a session at a certain time on a certain day.

So in this episode of the show, I ran through fifteen different ideas for making money in your coaching business that go beyond just 1:1 coaching. Consider this your idea-spark list. You don’t need to do all of them (please don’t try to do all of them at once), but hopefully something on here gets you thinking.

Before we dive in, a quick note: if you want to build a business with multiple offers, you do need a business model that actually makes sense. Without that in place, you’ll end up creating loads of stuff that isn’t selling, and that’s a recipe for overwhelm rather than income. So do check out my free business model training first, it’ll keep you right.

1. 1:1 Coaching

The obvious one, and still a brilliant one. Packages, transformation-based programmes, one-off sessions, there are lots of ways to structure this, but it’s the foundation most of us start with.

2. Group Coaching

Moving from working with people one-to-one to working with a group is one of the best ways to leverage your time and income. I absolutely love group coaching, it’s why Wholehearted Business® is my favourite thing I offer. Get on the waitlist if you want to see what a truly cosy group programme feels like.

3. Membership

A really popular model in the coaching world for a long time. People join, they stay for however long makes sense, and you offer them something ongoing. There are pros and cons (I’ve run memberships myself), but when it suits how you like to work, it can be fantastic.

4. Subscriptions

Slightly different to a membership, think Substack style platforms where people pay to access your content, whether that’s writing, video, or a podcast. It can work brilliantly alongside other offers, giving people a lower-commitment way to stay connected to you before they invest in something bigger.

5. Online Course

Self-study or delivered live, a course can be a great income stream if the business model behind it makes sense. You need to think about volume: how many people need to buy it, and what needs to be in place for it to actually be profitable, not just theoretically nice.

6. Low Ticket Offer

This isn’t really one thing, it’s more a role something plays in your business. A low ticket offer (generally under £100 or $100, depending on your industry position) could be a mini course, a masterclass, a template, an audio programme, or even a paid email sequence. It has a specific strategic job to do, which we cover properly in the free business model training.

7. Affiliates

If you’ve built up a decent audience and genuinely know, love and use something relevant to them, you can affiliate for it. I have affiliate links for Kit (my email provider) and for To Be Magnetic, a programme I’ve been part of for years. Every sign up through my link brings in a little extra income.

8. Referrals

Similar to affiliates but more personal, this is where you refer a client to another coach or practitioner because it’s genuinely the right next step for them, and you receive a thank you for the introduction.

9. Advertising

If you have a decent-sized audience on YouTube or your podcast, you can serve ads and generate income from views, listens and downloads. Whether it’s right for you strategically is a bigger conversation, but it’s another option worth knowing about.

10. Brand Work / Influencer Income

If you’ve built a sizeable following, brands may want to work with you. This doesn’t have to take anything away from your coaching. I did quite a lot of this in my early health coaching days through blogging, back when bloggers were the original influencers, and it brought in a good chunk of income.

11. Masterclass

A paid class where you teach something specific. It can sit as a low ticket offer or a higher investment, live or with a replay, it’s entirely up to how you want to position it.

12. Retreats

A bigger undertaking, but retreats can be incredibly rewarding to run, both financially and for the in-person connection they create. I’ve run several now and they’ve always gone brilliantly. I’ve also got a free retreat planning guide if you want to explore this further.

13. Events

Similar to a retreat but shorter, a single day event is another way to bring people together, generate income, and connect with people who might want to work with you further down the line.

14. Training

Formal training, delivered by you, is different again to a masterclass. This might also look like corporate training, something I did as a health coach, going in to train employees on wellbeing.

15. Consultancy

Offering your expertise as a consultant to organisations, companies or brands is another way to bring your coaching skillset into a different kind of income stream.

Where to go from here

That’s fifteen ideas for generating income in your coaching business that go beyond just 1:1 sessions. It’s genuinely exciting to think about the possibilities, but please do think strategically about how any of this fits together. Creating offer after offer without a plan is exhausting and rarely profitable. That’s exactly why I built the free business model training for coaches, so grab that first.

If you want support figuring out what makes sense for you and your business, I’d love to help.
