The Good Life with Holland and Barrett

wellbeing

How lifestyles have changed over time, is often a topic of discussion when it comes to healthy living. ‘The Good Old Days’ are often spoken about as being a time when people were healthier and more active. Holland and Barrett have conducted some interesting research to find out how the lifestyles of people in their 20’s today, differs from the lifestyles of people who were in their 20’s during the 1970’s. I think some of these findings are very interesting indeed:

I think some things such as gym use increasing and less smoking and drinking is great, but a four fold drop in body confidence? That is so sad. Also the reduction in people ‘living in the moment’ and the emphasis on making a lot of money. I do love that the research is very holistic and looks at various aspects of health to build up this picture.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think we are healthier than people were back in the 70’s?

That’s really interesting. I’m in the 20-30 category but my work is for people in the 50-60 category, so it’s interesting to see different attitudes.

I bet that is really interesting! Helps to see things from a different perspective maybe.

I am not surprised by the drop in body confidence what with all the pressure in the media these days. The smoking stat is really positive but then we know about the damage it causes now, whereas years ago they didn’t, so I suppose that explains it.
I think although people perhaps exercise in a gym, people are less active nowadays overall- when I was little we only had one car so we would walk into town with my Mum, and walk to school. Now so many children are driven to school, even if their journey is not even a mile, so they are not getting that every day activity people used to get.

Yes I did think that with the gym thing, I can remember even just the mid 80’s when I was 4/5 – we had no car so walked every where!

This was really interesting to read and great to hear about the decline in smoking. The smoking ban has done so much good for the country. It’s sad how stressful our lives have all become though.
