How to Start Your Own Searchable Show (Even If You’re Not Techy and Have No Idea Where to Begin)

Business, Latest

So you’ve been thinking about doing something different with your marketing — maybe starting a podcast, a YouTube channel, a blog — but every time you sit down to actually do it, you feel overwhelmed before you’ve even begun. Sound familiar?

I’ve been there. And I want to reassure you: you don’t need to be techy, you don’t need a fancy setup, and you absolutely don’t need to have it all figured out before you start. What you do need is a clear process — and that’s exactly what I’m walking you through today.

This is my Searchable Show Method: the step-by-step framework for setting up your own show so you can market your coaching business in less time, with a lot less stress, and get much better results than endlessly posting on social media.

What Exactly Is a Searchable Show?

Let’s get clear on this first, because it’s a term I’ve coined and I want you to really understand what it means.

A searchable show has two elements: the show part and the searchable part.

The show part means you’re creating content consistently in a format that gives people something to look forward to — something they can binge, like a Netflix series. It creates consistency, and consistency builds trust.

The searchable part means you’re sharing that content on platforms primarily driven by search — YouTube, your blog (hello, Google), podcast platforms, Pinterest. These are places where people are actively looking for content like yours. They come to you rather than you having to constantly push your content at them.

This is why it works so much better than social media. The content you create has longevity — it doesn’t disappear after 48 hours. It keeps working for you, quietly in the background, week after week, month after month. And because it’s long-form, people really get to know you, which means when they’re ready to invest, they already trust you.

(And just to be clear — I’m not anti-social media. I’m anti doing things that don’t feel good to you. This method can absolutely work alongside social media if you want it to.)

Step 1: Decide on Your Primary Piece of Content

The first thing you need to decide is what your core piece of content is going to be. Everything else flows from this one decision.

For me, it’s video. I record a video first and repurpose everything else from there. But that might not be right for you, and that’s completely fine. Your options are:

– A video (the most versatile starting point in terms of repurposing)
– An audio-only recording if you’re not ready for video yet
– A written blog post that you then record from

If you’re not ready for video, please don’t let that stop you. Start with audio. Start with a blog. You’ll grow into it. It’s so much better to start imperfectly than not to start at all — and trust me, perfectionism kept me stuck for a long time too.

Step 2: Choose Your Searchable Platforms

Once you know what you’re creating, you need to decide where you’re sharing it. Here’s a rundown of the main options:

YouTube is the big one for video. It’s the world’s second largest search engine, and for coaches, the potential to reach new people is enormous.

Podcast platforms are fairly straightforward once you’ve got your RSS feed set up — your content gets distributed across Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and everywhere else automatically.

Your blog is where Google SEO comes into play. And this is a genuinely exciting area right now, because well-written blog content is also starting to help coaches show up in AI search — when someone searches inside ChatGPT, for example.

Pinterest is still worth considering, particularly if you’re in the health or life coaching space. It’s not as powerful as it once was, but it’s still a massive search engine and a relatively easy add-on once your content is created.

Platforms like Substack and Medium can also be part of the mix.

Step 3: Develop Your Content Strategy

This is the step that most people skip — and it’s why they end up creating lots of content that doesn’t actually move their business forward.

It’s not enough to just come up with ideas (and no, just asking ChatGPT for content ideas isn’t a strategy!). You need a framework for why you’re creating what you’re creating. Inside the Searchable Show Method, we look at three types of content:

– Content that attracts new people to find you
– Content that nurtures people and helps them connect with you
– Content that actively sells your offers

Without all three, you’re missing a piece of the puzzle. This is also what makes it completely different from being a content creator or influencer — the strategy is built around your coaching business, not just your audience numbers.

Step 4: Sort Out Your Tech Setup

I know, I know. This is the bit that makes a lot of people want to close the laptop entirely. But I promise it’s less of a faff than you think.

Here’s what you’ll need to get in place:

– Set up your YouTube channel (fairly straightforward)
– Set up your podcast host and get listed on the main directories
– Work out what equipment you need to record (it doesn’t have to be expensive or perfect)
– Learn how to edit your content in a way that’s quick and not soul-destroying
– Get your scheduling and uploading process sorted

The key mindset shift: see the searchable show in two distinct phases — the setup phase (a project you do once) and the running phase (your ongoing rhythm). Once the setup is done, the running of it is so much easier.

Also — please don’t let perfectionism keep you stuck. I wasted a lot of time worrying that my sound quality wasn’t good enough. None of that matters as much as you think it does.

Step 5: Launch Your Show

Once you’ve got your content created and your tech sorted, it’s time to launch. This can look like lots of different things — a big announcement, a soft launch, a series of teaser content. There’s no single right way.

Inside the Searchable Show Method, we look at all the options and help you figure out what makes sense for you and your audience.

The Ongoing Rhythm

Once you’re up and running, what most people find is that having a show actually helps them stay consistent. Announcing to the world that you’re releasing an episode regularly creates a natural accountability.

You can build in seasons, planned breaks, and batching — so this works for your life as well as your business. It’s meant to feel sustainable, not like a “come rain or shine, no matter what” situation.

And what people consistently tell me is that they find it so much easier to be consistent with this method than anything else they’ve tried. The clients come. The email list grows. And it just feels better.
