Mocha power shake 3

Sometimes you just need a super boost. As a mum to a toddler, running my own business and doing all the usual household management stuff, often on little sleep, I need to eat something that’s going to give me a injection of energy and focus!

This shake is definitely it. Firstly I have to confess I am such a complete coffee addict. Not only do I love the caffeine, I also love the taste and have become somewhat of a coffee snob over the last few years. My Nespresso machine is my favourite thing and I actively look forward to my morning coffee hit.

I came up with this shake recipe after a row of particularly rough nights with a teething toddler when I needed a healthier equivalent of 10 cans of Red Bull. Instead of reaching for a sugar and chemical shit storm, I made this and loved it. Yes I know matcha is great for energy but sometimes you need to get out the big guns!

This would make a great pick me up snack or a breakfast on the go. That’s how I have enjoyed it when I’ve needed to travel to an event and know I need to be ‘on’ all day.

The shake combines coffee for its instant boost and flavour with banana for sustained energy, peanut butter for protein and cacao for energy, antioxidants and of course chocolate flavour!

To be fair, I need to stop apologising for my love of coffee. Yes, it’s not the best thing to be drinking on tap all day, but 1-2 cups or two shots of good quality espresso can support mental focus and clarity. Coffee is also a good source of antioxidants. Just try and get the best quality you can afford, I love organic coffee pods from Cru Kafe for my Nespresso and Clipper organic instant coffee.

I love the smell but not the taste of coffee- I think this sounds fab without- a nice peanut butter chocolate shake, although not such a morning boost! I’ve found the matcha that I lost when we moved, so now I just need to get back into the habit of having some in the morning.
