Beetroot, Apple and Ginger Juice
This is the season where our immune system can take a real battering going into autumn and winter and getting lots of fruit and vegetables can be a helpful way to support our bodies to feel good.
Personally I’m not as much of a fan of smoothies when it’s cold for some reason, but juices I can handle and that’s why I love them as a convenient way to get extra veggies and fruit into your diet. Of course eating whole fruit and veg, with all their fibre too, is important so I wouldn’t see a juice replacing that, rather supplementing an already well rounded diet – as well as having lots of warming foods too.
A couple of weeks ago I found myself floored with a nasty cold and I just loved experimenting with juices for getting more fruits and veggies in addition to my meals. I used to have an old juicer that was a nightmare to clean, thankfully I had a new kitchen toy to try out, an Essenzia Slow Juice Extractor from Siquri.
I wasn’t sure how different it would be to my old juicer but this ones amazing! First of all I loved the rose gold colour which would look amazing on your kitchen counter.
Secondly this juicer has a large opening which allows you to juice whole fruit and veg without taking ages chopping them up. This juicer crushes the fruit and vegetables almost like a hydronic press to release maximum juice where as my old centrifugal juicer rips the fruit and vegetables to extract the juice leaving a lot of juice in the pulp, and potentially damaging the quality of the juice.
This juicer was really easy to use and for cleaning the pieces just needed to be rinsed off and then put through the dishwasher. It also has a handy cap on the spout that the juices comes out of to stop those annoying drips! The excess pulp is pushed out of the machine into a separate container which means that the machine itself is more compact that some other models and it also means that you could juice a large volume of fruit and vegetables without having to stop and empty a large bulky container all the time.
The machine is also BPA free!
But back to the juice – I’m not so much of a green juice fan at this time of year, I much prefer a juice with root vegetables and some warming ginger. I created this simple recipe with blood boosting beetroot and immune supporting ginger to help me get over my cold. I hope you enjoy this too!
Beetroot, Apple and Ginger Juice
- 2 Beetroot
- 2 Apples
- 2 inch chunk of ginger
Directions
Clean all of the fruit and veg and juice then drink!
This totally tastes like a sherbet kind of sweet, it was absolutely delicious!
A juicer like this is more of an investment but it’s something that should last for years. Juicing doesn’t have to just be something connected to faddy detoxes, being able to whip up a ginger juice shot at home in the winter, a simple recipe like this to support your health in the autumn or a refreshing green juice in the summer are lovely ways to enjoy the taste and benefits of juices. It’s also fun for kids to feed the pieces of veg into the opening and watch them get crushed, Finley loved it!
