Hello lovelies, hope you are having a delightful Sunday! Rewinding back to last Sunday I enjoyed a fab birthday which included that free mocktail courtesy of Las Iguanas. We had went to see Guardians of the Galaxy at the cinema and followed it up with a meal there for Newcastle Restaurant week. It was just £10 each for a two course meal and a drink!
Eat
As last weekend was my birthday it was pretty indulgent. We went for a meal with my parents, sister and bro-in-law to The Church Mouse a popular local gastro pub. I had an amazing meal of pork belly with sweet potato, cabbage, black pudding and roasted pear with a ginger beer sauce:
It was incredible! I also had a slice of peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake:
It’s not often I can’t finish a dessert but that beat me! After all of the rich food of the weekend I was ready for my usual healthy food. Unfortunately by Monday night I was feeling well and truly under the weather with a nasty head cold so my food cravings went a bit strange from starving to not wanting to eat at all. I made as much effort as possible to pack in the good stuff!
I don’t know about you guys but I’ve noticed a shift in the kind of food I fancy this week. Perhaps it’s just being a bit poorly but after what feels like weeks of not having warm or hot meals all of a sudden I’m craving soups, broths and chilli! I think autumn is on the way :-)
Move
Workouts this week:
- Monday – Gym – 10 minutes step machine, 10 minutes bike, squats, seated shoulder presses, seated chest presses
- Tuesday – Rest
- Wednesday – Gym – 20 minutes bike, random strength exercises on the machines
- Thursday – 15 minutes yoga
- Friday – 15 minutes walk, 15 minutes yoga
- Saturday – 30 minute hard walk
- Sunday – Rest
With me feeling ill I decided to just have a relaxed cycle at the gym on Wednesday and when I still wasn’t feeling great on Friday I thought some fresh air and yoga would be better than the gym. Yesterday James and I decided to take a longer walk and he showed me the route he often takes to work through some fields and woods. It was so beautiful! But the walk was knackering with two huge hills to get up! James kindly laughed at me and my bump waddling up them ;-)
Wear
I wore this for going out on my birthday and to my friends little girls birthday party the day before. I got it in the sale a while ago, definitely one of my nicest items of maternity wear!
Love
After a couple of weeks break I got my organic veg box delivered again. Now that I’ve finished recipe testing for the book I’m back into cooking more creative everyday meals. I find that getting the veg box every so often makes me have to think up more ideas! Also…
34 weeks pregnant now, just 6 weeks to go! // scented candles // listening to my natal hypnotherapy CD while enjoying some essential oils // early nights // The Desire Map // fresh chilli in smoothies (recipe coming soon!) // proper builders tea (random craving) // seeing my great, great Nana for the first time in a newly discovered photograph

While it’s been a nice enough week although I have to admit having that head cold has really knocked me for six. I was actually feeling really bloody lousy for a lot of the week. I hate getting ill, but I guess I should think myself lucky not to have had any other illnesses for such a long time, especially while pregnant when your immune system is lowered. Generally I feel that my healthy lifestyle works wonders and keeps my immune system in good shape so I get a bit down on myself when it ‘fails’ on me! Anyway, I am starting to feel better as of this weekend so hopefully all the garlic, ginger, chilli, lemon and honey I’ve been eating is doing the trick!
How do you react to little illnesses? How often do you go out for walks?
P.S I’m getting a few things ironed out with the blog design and functionality tomorrow (hopefully to include getting rid of any pop up ads that show on mobile devices) so if you are visiting Monday and things look a little weird, bear with me!
Oh I am SUCH a stubborn ill person. I can’t stand being ill so it always makes me really cross haha! Sounds like you effectively tackled your recovery head on though :)
I rarely go on walks but always think it’s something I should do more often as yours look so good! Have a lovely weekend :)
PS have been loving your sweet potato pancakes this week :D
Glad you’ve been enjoying the pancakes! I need to start making them more often :-)
I walk most days- it’s a great way to get bubbas to sleep and burn off the preggie weight!
I think I’ll be doing a lot of that same walking too!
Awh sorry you’ve been feeling lousy this week lovely…can’t beat some nutrition packed foods to help though as you did do :) I very rarely get ill..only like once a year! But when I do, I get it really really bad and normally can’t even face a walk so just lay in bed and sleep all day! I definitely need to start going out for walks more. I went on one today with my mum as I took a day off the gym and it was so nice and we got a coffee along the way :)
That sounds like a lovely walk with your mum :-) Yep I’m usually the same and hardly get ill so get so miffed when it happens!
Sorry to hear you have been under the weather- I think the weather has more of an autumnal feel too- it has been really windy here these last few days.
I am not a good ill person as I hate being ill- it messes with my routine! So I normally try and carry on as usual. I love going out for walks- I have managed one nearly every day since being home from holiday, but I think once work starts and the paperwork piles up it gets harder to keep with the routine.
I hate how illness effects your routine as well, as if being ill isn’t bad enough then you feel out of sync!
Sorry to hear you are poorly lovely! I hope it goes away pronto!
If I ever get I bump up the smoothies and juices – seems to do the trick! Your eats look delicious this week as always!
Thanks Lauren, I’m feeling way better now thank goodness! Yep I love my cold busting smoothies when I need to feel better!
I am rubbish at being ill – I see it as a personal defeat – or well that’s what I think but then I remember I am healthy not super human :) I love walks – just been in the lakes – it’s amazing how achy you can get from walking up hills and scrambling on rocks.
Haha me as well! Then I try and recognise it’s probably my bodies way of telling me to relax. Looking forward to hearing all about your trip to the Lakes!
Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling under the weather Laura, I’ve been feeling a bit rubbish recently too. I’m sure the changing weather has something to do with it.
That organic veg box looks amazing, so many fab looking bits!
You know I was just saying to James that if I do get ill it’s often at the turn of the seasons. The veg box has been fab, just wish it was cheaper!
Love the post Laura!

Thanks Millie!
Hope you are feeling better! My other half has a hideous viral infection at the minute so I’m doing my best not to catch it! It’s definitely feeling more Autumnal, I had my first bowl of porridge for ages this week.
Oh dear, hope he gets better soon! Yes the weather certainly seems to have turned, I’m trying to hold off feeling all autumnal for a few days but it’s tough, looking forward to all things pumpkin :-)
Sending love and hoping your feeling better soon lovely lady!
Thanks Lucie, thankfully feeling so much better today!
Sorry you’re bit under the weather :( I think you can be the healthiest person in the world, eating the healthiest diet and exercising well but you can still catch a nasty lurgy sadly. It really depends what’s flying about the place and how unlucky you are to catch it I guess.
I love walking. I walk Alfie every morning. If I’m running or cycling then I’ll give him a 10 minute walk and then a walk afterwards as well but if I’m not I’ll give him a 20 minute walk. At the weekend we go for longer. I love putting in a podcast or a good album and just walking along. So good for peace of mind!
Definitely I think its just one of those things that can’t be helped, I’m blaming the kids at my friends party and the lowered pregnancy immune system! I think owning a dog is so good for keeping fit and healthy with taking them for walks :-)
Hope you are feeling a bit better now :) Your birthday meal out looks so good! x
You have a very healthy (and yummy looking) diet. Love that dress and the necklace by Topshop. Hope you will be feeling better soon!
