2023 Review and my 2024 Plans

Business

If you love behind the scenes content when it comes to online business and coaching then stay tuned because I’m going to be sharing a full rundown of behind the scenes of my online coaching business in 2023, how much money I made, my lessons learned as well as my intentions for 2024

I’ve been writing annual review posts for over 10 years ( 2011 / 2012 / 2013 / 2014 / 2015 / 2016 / 2017 (not sure where this post has gone!) / 2018 / 2019 / 2020 / 2021/ 2022 ) I always love to look back at what happened and share some of my plans for the coming year.

2023

What a year this has been! I don’t feel like the same person I did at the start of the year, in fact if you take a look at the video I did for my 2022 review you’ll see the difference.

It’s not just physically but energetically I just feel like a different person, but more on that in a moment!

I’m not going to talk about the first 3 quarters of the year as you can check that out in my quarterly reviews here (link) but since I haven’t done a review of Oct – Dec let’s start there.

Firstly, on a more personal basis I went through a really hard time in Oct and Nov. I won’t go into lots of details, and everything is absolutely fine, but I was really struggling with some stuff. It seemed to coincide with the Eclipse portals, and because I do follow astrology, it felt like a lot of the themes of these were being felt for me personally. So that was all rather challenging.

But business wise, I just kept on showing up as best I could while giving myself some grace. I ran The 1:1 Coaching Fix which was brilliant. Delivering a programme in this way was such a game changer, people got fab results and gave me some lovely feedback so I’ll definitely be running it again next year and running more programmes in a similar way.

I also ran a Black Friday promotion. I always go into these with no specific expectations so I’m always quite happy with the result, I think I made around £500 in sales over those couple of days.

I really wind things down in December so not much happens in this month business wise which is a nice change of pace! Although I did take part in Lizzy’s Christmas Party – a huge bundle which was amazing and I’m still building my list as a result of that.

So looking back over 2023 as a whole, in business I felt like things were just pretty solid and consistent. As I type this, my income for 2023 is sitting at £50,101

My goal for this year was £60K, and £50k is less than I’ve made in previous years, but although the total is less, the profit is actually higher due to some differences in the way income has come in and the expenses I’ve had (like retreats that I’ve ran in partnership and have managed the finances for in previous years).

I did do a rough breakdown of how my income was split over different things I offer which looks like:

  • 1:1 work – £27,000
  • Wholehearted Business – £9,000
  • Memberships, courses and programmes – £12,000
  • Other bits like affiliate income – £2,000

All rounded up figures.

I found this really useful to break down the income in this way as I can see where I’d like to make some changes and shifts next year!

Personally, as I was saying, 2023 was a pretty big year for me. I really got a handle on my health and wellbeing *trigger warning as I’m going to discuss weight loss*

I lost 3 and a half stone (50lbs). If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I have a long and complex story when it comes to weight and weight loss that includes being overweight, having orthorexia etc. It’s an area of my life that I’ve struggled to find balance in, but this year I feel like I’ve found something that works for me. And while I’m well aware that weight alone is not an indicator of health or happiness at all, I physically just feel so much better in myself. It’s truly been an enormous shift.

I joined a gym and started weight lifting more, which is a form of exercise I love. I’ve also got back into running after years! All the unhealthy habits and mindset I had around exercise seem to be kept in check so far which I’m grateful for.

I also started reading fiction more, the Thursday Murder Club books are my fave! I started wild swimming which has been massive for me, I simply love it – although I haven’t braved it since the weather turned! I’ve started buying and selling on Vinted which means we have a lot less clutter, have boosted our income (I’ve made about £1000 on Vinted this year) and my capsule wardrobe is looking amazing!

Overall, 2023 has been a wonderful year, definitely not without its ups and downs, but on the whole it’s been full of some really significant shifts both personally and professionally.

2024 Plans

Wow I am just so excited to get stuck into 2024! I went through a really lovely planning process using my own planner as a basis and I’ve got some really fun goals and intentions for the year ahead.

General business plans

Ooooh you guys I can’t wait to start putting all these things into practice!

Generally speaking, I’d like to increase the number of people enrolling in Wholehearted Business. That was the biggest eye opener when I looked at the income breakdown. So working with more people in Wholehearted Business and less 1:1 would be a great shift to see when I look back next year.

I’d like to significantly increase my email list size. I feel like I’ve known this for ages but just haven’t had the motivation to really work hard on it. I know my offers are connecting and selling and I feel like increasing the volume of lovely people who find me and come into my world is going to be key.

I’d like to do more collaborations. This has been a massive sticky area for me, because I lack confidence and worry about being rejected but I feel like I’m ready to delve into this much more!

I’m generally looking at a strategy that incorporates ongoing marketing and lead generation alongside more ‘project’ based strategies that include collabs and live events. In terms of content, I feel like I’ve created a lot of work that is helpful for newer coaches and this year I’d like to explore content for coaches who are more established as well.

I’m also going to run more live programmes with a heavy focus on implementation support and an individualised element like I did for The 1:1 Coaching Fix.

I’m also debating coming back to the Instagram feed and starting a Substack!

£70K in income in the business

A bit like last year’s £60K goal, I have no idea if I will hit this, but I am excited to give it a good try! I know something significant needs to shift in my business to hit that income goal. I’ve been bouncing around the £50k a year mark for some time now, and I truly am ready for the next level.

Significant personal savings and a more healthy cash flow

I would like to save up at least 4 months living costs and to be running with 6 months cash flow in the business at all times. Financial safety and security is a big deal for me, and while my business is extremely healthy, my core desired feeling of ‘cosy’ heavily connects to feeling financially safe and those two goals will help me meet that, alongside that £70k a year goal.

I chat a bit more about my personal financial situation in the video and podcast above if you want to learn more about that including mortgages, debt etc!

Taking care of myself

I’d like to build on everything I did last year and just continue to find more joy in taking care of my body. As a 41 year old, this is as much about protecting my health and wellbeing for the future and feeling as good as I possibly can right now. I never imagined I’d feel more confident in my body in my 40’s than I did in my 20’s and I just want to continue that!

A couple of specific areas I want to focus on include my sleep, energy levels and my core strength.

Home

Back in 2022 I started making some big changes to our home, including having our garage converted into an office. In 2023 I’ve redecorated the kids rooms, so this year I’d like to continue with some decor updates and I have a list of things that need doing or finishing off. I’d also like to redecorate my bedroom.

Adventures!

I want to have lots of adventures this year, more wild swimming, more holidays and mini getaways (in 2023 we had a family holiday to the Lake District and it was amazing!). I’d love to go hiking in Scotland or in the Lake District.

I do enjoy adventures and travelling, but we’ve just not had the budget to go abroad and in all honesty I’m quite happy exploring what we have right on our doorstep here in the UK for now. So one of my goals is to enjoy more adventures and do lots of fun things in nature right here in the north-east.

Doing the work

While I’ve done a lot of mindset and subconscious work around health and wellbeing, I’ve not truly applied it to business and abundance type topics. So I’m committing to myself that I’m going to ‘do the work’ in this area in a more consistent way.

My word of the year

My word for this year is Brave.

I’m so excited to see how that influences how I show up in 2024!

I hope you’ve found this review helpful! Have you chosen a word for the year? If so let me know in the comments!
